The idea behind the Cortina paravent is inspired by the work taking place in the Amorim factory in Portugal, being one of the largest manufacturers of cork materials. In addition to insulating and flooring materials, Amorim also produces machine punched bottle corks. As a main part of the work process, the cork bark is cut into strips and manually fed to the punching machine by workers of the factory. The leftovers of the bottle cork production are usually processed into further cork products. The paravent however, brings the warmth of these material leftovers into the interior and divides its space in a charming but simple way. Cortina’s structure allows the observer a partial view through it while still being able to separate the room and creating some privacy.
